Data Templates for Specifications

Often elements are partially filled with the same information. With data templates it would be possible to save and edit a template of property values for a specification on the platform or inside the plugins.

During attribution, in our plugins or IFC-Studio, these templates could then be applied to the selected elements in a single click. This could further speed-up the attribution process, especially for data which is reoccurring.

To make it easier to create data templates, they could be created directly from the plugin from already filled-out elements.

I like the idea of Data Templates a lot!

The Part where we should be able to create the from the Plugin not so much… we would prefer to make the Definitions zentralized. Of Course this can be limited by the “Disciplines”, but we would suggest to focus on “Data Templates”.

Hi Marc, thanks for the feedback.

The data templates would mainly be managed in a separate view on the platform. So creation, editing, deletion of data templates would primary be possible on the web-platform.

The creation templates inside the plugins would be an optional addition to make it easier to create templates from existing data in models. This would be fully optional and only possible for users with “edit” access to data templates in the catalog.

So if model-authors shouldn’t have access to editing the templates, you’d just remove the “edit” right in the access-management view of the project.

I’d be happy to get your feedback on our internal concept for the feature, once it’s ready 👍
