IFC Studio

In LastBIM 1.0 we had an IFC Studio which made it possible to edit smaller IFC files directly inside the browser with all functionalities our plugins had to offer.

We're currently waiting for an update of an external software-component we're using to implement the IFC Studio. Once that took place we'll reimplement the previous functionality we had, while also supporting way larger models than before.

What will be new inside the IFC-Studio?

  • Better performance with larger IFC files.
  • Better model navigation - e.g. with the IFC tree.

What was already possible in the old IFC-Studio?

  • Validate the model against the selected requirements.
  • Attribute the model based on the requirements.
  • View the model and all of the data inside.

We are quite new to the Product LastBIM, but have experience in BIMQ, BIM Profilserver as IDS Editors and several Checkers with IDS Support. We see two important UseCases:

    1. Modelvalidation outside of Authoring Tool (Revit) - especially for IFC Models we get as a Reference or Starting Point to work. If LastBIM can provide this, even better.

    1. If we get Models, they often Lack on Information. If we could add this in an easy way in Studio (instead f.e. simpleBIM) it would help the Adoption of the BIM Method a lot. We hope the adition of Information could also be Relation to Spaces, Relation to Types, etc. next to Attributes and Properties.

Hey Marc, thanks for the feedback.

      1. This is our main goal. Validate any IFC models in just a few clicks, based on the already defined requirements on the platform. This also helps to make sure that models were exported correctly from the previous software (Revit). We already did this in the 1.0 version of the IFC-Studio

      2. Adding information in the IFC-Studio will work quite similar to our other already existing plugins. You’ll be able to edit properties based on the information requirements of the platform.

I’d love to further explore additional editing use-cases, like adding information to element relations. We’ll contact you once we’ve got a first draft of the IFC Studio ready to dive deeper in your additional use-cases 👍
