Regex Builder for Property Value Rules

Did you know you can use Regex (Regular Expressions) to define how component codes, room numbers, and other properties should be structured and check the property values against it?

Example: The Regex pattern [A-Z]\.[0-9]{2}\.[0-9]{2} ensures a room number always follows the format X.12.34 (one uppercase letter, followed by two two-digit number blocks separated by dots).

While Regex has been available in LastBIM for a while, creating patterns wasn’t very user-friendly—until now.

What’s New?

We’ve launched the Regex Builder, making this powerful feature accessible to everyone. No prior Regex knowledge needed. It comes with:

  • Cheat Sheet: A quick-reference guide for common Regex patterns.

  • AI Generator: Describe the pattern you need in plain language (e.g., "a letter, then two number blocks with dots"), and the AI creates the Regex for you.

  • Live Testing: Test your Regex against sample values to ensure it matches correctly and adjust the prompt if necessary.

The Regex generator is available for the property value rules and for the classification of specifications with classifying properties.

Give it a try and improve the consistency of any codes in your models!
